People often ask us what drove the creation of Organic Meltdown chocolate. We talk a bit about it in the About Us section of this webpage, but another way to get to the heart of the matter is to speak about our values. Organic Meltdown has its own values which we describe as our passion, plan, purpose and parable!

Passion: We've tried chocolate from around the globe, searched high and low for the finest Organic and Fair-Trade Certified cocoa, vanilla beans and ingredients we thought were innovative solutions to problems people face with their help, their environment and the world's greatest challenge - poverty. We are constantly searching for new ingredients and their sustainable use. We test and prod the limits of how brands can be beneficial for the planet. Our passion for re-inventing chocolate and doing things differently led to the creation of the first hyper-ethical chocolate brand, Organic Meltdown.

Plan: Our goal is to save five million trees by 2012. With your help we're already well on the way to meeting that goal and exceeding it. Stopping deforestation is crucial to fighting devastating climate change.

Purpose: Our purpose is to save tropical forest trees and maintain Organic Meltdown as a healthy, organic and fairly sourced brand. In fact, every bar we sell is organic, Fair-trade and saves a tree from being destroyed. Why? Cocoa trees originally come from the foothills of the Andes Mountains in the Amazon basin where deforestation puts the original home of cocoa in dire jeopardy of disappearing within 20-40 years. Also, we were shocked to learn that despite the hype around Greenhouse Gases (GHGs) coming from cars, all vehicles on the road today account for 7% of GHG emissions worldwide while cutting down the world's tropical forests causes over 20% of the emissions - three times as much climate damage! For these reasons and more, Organic Meltdown chocolate was one of many sweet solutions to help save the forests.

Parable: The moral of our story is quite simple if you ask yourself "is Organic Meltdown chocolate the only brand trying to save trees?" Unfortunately, the answer right now is "yes" although we're trying to help change that. Organic Meltdown is meant to create positive change by saving a tree for every bar of chocolate we sell. However, hope is contagious and our true desire is to educate and inform everyone who will listen about small, positive changes we can all make to help avert the terrible burden that destroying tropical forests places on our global climate. Losing these forests is a tragic loss that destabilizes the climate and threatens thousands of plant and animal species with extinction each week.

Organic Meltdown chocolate saves one tropical forest tree for every bar of chocolate sold. We're currently working with the World Land Trust and foundation partner Ecominga to save trees in Ecuadorean Cloud Forests. With your help we are looking for a sweet solution to Climate Change.
