What is Organic?

Organic farming aims to deliver fantastic tasting food and agricultural produce without the use of conventional pesticides, artificial fertilizers, food enhancers or additives. Livestock are raised in a free-range, open air environment, and are fed using only organic foodstuffs. No genetically modified crops or organisms are permitted in any element of the process.

Organic farming methods also pay very close attention to the way the land and the associated eco systems are managed. Wider crop rotation is a key element of the organic process, along with the preservation of the valuable top soil, using on site resources such as livestock manure as fertilizer.

It is a method of farming that has been in existence throughout time, with all of humanity eating organic food until the early part of the twentieth century. Since then we have become obsessed with the use of chemicals to produce larger crops, in shorter periods of time, and to create food products that are visually more acceptable, and will stay fresher for longer.

The Organic movement is however beginning to gather momentum. No longer limited to smaller family run businesses selling organic produce in the local farm markets, the production of organic foods has increased 20% since the early 1990's. According to statistics organic food now makes up 1-2% of all food sales worldwide.

100% Organic Meltdown Promise

Organic Meltdown chocolate is made from cocoa beans that have not been sprayed and contaminated by pesticides which make it better for the farmers, better for our bodies, but more importantly better for the environment.

In addition to this every single bar of our Organic Meltdown chocolate uses only organic ingredients. We search the far corners of the globe to discover and source ingredients that meet the stringent certification guidelines. From the vanilla that is used across all of our flavours, to the nutmeg found in our exotic Indian Spice, or the orange oil used in our Rooibos and Raspberry, we guarantee that every element is Organic and helps to deliver flavours that are uniquely natural and wholesome.

The team here at Organic Meltdown have chosen to use organic ingredients for a number of reasons. Not only do we believe that the taste of the chocolate is far more authentic and of a higher quality than non-organic chocolate, but also because of our policy towards the environment.

We believe that the land is far more sustainable if the produce is grown organically. This is also beneficial to the developing countries that we work with to produce the cocoa, as it means their lands can be used for years to come, and in turn helps to provide an industry that is sustainable and re-generating.

The Organic Meltdown View

There are many views out there that argue organic food is no better, or any safer, or more nutritious than conventionally produced food. Here at Organic Meltdown we don't use organic ingredients for the sake of being different; we use them because we personally believe it is a more natural, nutritious and safer way to farm food products. We believe we can deliver genuinely fantastic tasting chocolate bars, without the use of pesticides or artificial taste enhancers, and at the same time help to keep toxins out of the air, soil and water systems.

We care about the many special qualities of organic food and about the particular emphasis that organic farming places on low-input production, and on the protection of our natural resources and of biodiversity. We also care about the contribution that organic farming can make to economic development in rural communities and also the consumer confidence it offers you.

OM is certified organic in the EU and also in the USA under USDA/NOP guidelines.
